Will my insurance company cover the cost of your services?
This will depend on the insurance provider and the policy or health spending account that you have. Since I am a member of the Health Coach Alliance, I have a registered member number that I am able to provide to you if you do submit. If you aren’t 100% sure if these services are covered by your current provides, my suggestion would be to review your policy or reach out to your provider directly to confirm.
What is a Holistic Nutrition Coach?
When I work with clients, I am looking at more than what they are eating. I’m looking at what’s going on in their life, whether anything particularly stressful is going on, how they are sleeping, what their social life is like, how often they are moving their bodies, how often they are getting out into nature, and trying to get a sense for what their whole world looks like, because everything is connected! For example, if someone is eating what they consider to be a “clean” diet, but isn’t prioritizing sleep and is experiencing a stressful time in their life, they will be much less likely to reach the goals they have for themselves. In essence, I focus on nutrition as a critical pillar in the process, but also make sure we are addressing other areas that are part of someone’s overall wellness.
I’ve been on diets before and they didn’t work – how is your approach different?
This is one of my biggest motivators for getting into this space. Diet culture and main stream media will have you believe that you need to eat a very specific way in order to look a certain way, but you need to remember that the diet industry is a multi-billion dollar industry profiting from you believing the things they tell you. We know that restrictive dieting is not only an awful experience, it simply doesn’t work (did you know that ~95% of diets fail?!). The reason my approach is different is because I give my clients the tools to create lasting change vs. telling them to simply restrict the number of calories they eat. We shift the focus to learning about how to nourish our bodies using frameworks that allow for flexibility and personal choice, which is key if there is going to be sustained change. This doesn’t mean that our work together easy - it will require behavioural changes (which is never easy) and for you to put in the work. My commitment to you is that I will be here to support you, meet you where you are at, and help you navigate through any challenges that arise. I take my role seriously in your health journey and will go the extra mile to help you get where you want to be.
Do you take clients that are plant-based, vegetarian or vegan?
To answer this question, I will quote a book that I often read to my daughter: “All are welcome here!”. Regardless of the way that you are currently eating, I would love to work with you. Although I am an omnivore (I eat both plants and animals since that is what works best for my body), I also realize that other people may eat differently for various reasons (religion, animal welfare, the environment, etc.). I like to believe that I do not approach nutrition in a dogmatic way and look at it through an objective, science-based lens. We are all unique individuals and can choose to eat in any way we want - I am here to support whatever that looks like for you to help you reach your goals.
